Healthy perspective

ree

Many of us have been taught that adults are supposed to be responsible, mature and serious, which basically means to be worried most of the time. And our face needs to indicate it. Otherwise, society will worry about us. If we’re enjoying ourselves too much, people may believe that we’re not taking life seriously enough, as if we need an excuse to be happy. But people forget that the force that created us meant for us to enjoy ourselves. Otherwise there wouldn’t be so many of us who clearly demonstrate that force’s hilarious sense of humor!

When we act concerned, serious and worried, it appears to everyone around us that we’re making an effort and doing our best. The bad news is that we embody all that stress, and it shows up as symptoms. Then we go to a doctor and say, “Fix it!” A better plan would be to explore what initially caused the symptoms, in the area where our dis-ease began, by looking at how we interact with each other, how we perceive life and whether we accept ourselves. Then we could save ourselves the trouble of expressing our imbalances through physical symptoms.

The place to start is in developing a healthy relationship with ourselves. We may not be in the best condition, physically or emotionally. But it’s where we are right now. So the first step is to appreciate ourselves, no matter what. Whatever our condition is, we’re still fascinating. Our bodies and minds are still absolutely wonderful and intriguing.

Causing ourselves to feel OK about our present situation, which means dropping fear and resistance, is the place to start. And the good news is that a deliberate decision to change our perspective will result in a change in our condition.

We’re all great story creators, and we’re living out our scripts. We’re playing our parts beautifully, according to how we designed our lives. And so are the people in our stories, our cast of characters, who are following our direction. Our stories include soap operas, Greek tragedies, high romance, adventure and horror. And it’s our choice whether we play the role of the victim or the hero.
